Overview

Laser Lew (Indianapolis) makes work unlike anyone in digital art: physical laser installations built from glass, mirrors, and water, so precise they're routinely mistaken for 3D renders — neon geometry and refracted light in a style he calls vaporwave-disco.

He'd shown during Miami Art Week 2023 and NFT NYC, and was preparing "The Journey Within" with immersive-tech company COSM in Los Angeles. I believed his work needed one specific thing no gallery could give it: a dome. So I pitched the Arvin Gottlieb Planetarium at Union Station on hosting the premiere of a new series built for their 60-foot theater — and they said yes.

The Work:
Laser Visions premiered March 16, 2024: an audio-visual voyage pairing Lew's tangible laser work with 3D animated art — a short film created with a collaborating 3D animator Tend studio out of Denver, Colorado, designed as an immersive experience somewhere between stimulation and meditation.

My role ran the full arc: scouting and championing the artist, conceiving the artist-venue match, pitching and securing the booking, then producing the campaign — logistics, press and interviews, and promotion through Digital Dreams, alongside Union Station's own marketing of the engagement.

Results:
Both showtimes sold out across the two-night run. The premiere proved the planetarium could draw an audience for digital art — and eight months later, Union Station engaged me to produce the venue's 25th Anniversary Celebration, where Laser Lew returned as one of three commissioned experiences.
